Funeral Mass for Richard L. "Rick" George Jr., 71, of Eastlake, will be 10:30 a.m. Saturday, at Immaculate Conception Church, 37940 Euclid Ave., Willoughby. Rick passed away Monday, Nov. 14, 2022, at Symphony at Mentor. Born Sept. 15, 1951, in East Cleveland, he had been a lifetime resident of Lake County. Rick was an avid marathon runner, ran in the Para Olympics in Barcelona Spain and Seoul South Korea, was a track and cross country coach in the Willoughby-Eastlake Schools and St. Justin Martyr in Eastlake, and carried the Olympic Torch in 1996. He was a member of Immaculate Conception Church in Willoughby, St. Justin Martyr Church in Eastlake, National Arbor Foundation, U.S.A.B.A. (Blind Athletes), and the Northeast Running Club. Rick was also very active in Pro-Life. His family, children and grandchildren were most important to him. He loved spending time with his big great family, camping, and was known for cooking breakfast for his "family campers!" Mr. George had worked as a mechanic for the City of Eastlake for 32 years and served as President of the A.F.S.C.M.E. Union of the Service Department. He was the beloved husband of 47 years to Laurie P. (nee Kernast) George; loving father of Cassandra M. "Casey" Conrad, Lisa M. (Patrick) Curtis and Patricia K. "Tricia" (Ryan) Goss; cherished grandfather of Sean, Leah, Ryan, Laney, Ian, Scarlett and Charlotte; dear son of Teresa J. (nee Clifford) George; brother of Daniel M. (Betty) George, Dale J. George, Randy D. (Teresa) George, David R. George, Catherine R. (Jim) Lynch, Mike J. (Judy) George, Gary J. George and Thomas R. (Lisa) George; Godfather of Christy Downs, Joshua George and Matt Morgan; brother-in-law of Rose Fleshman; and uncle of many nieces and nephews. Rick was preceded in death by his father, Richard L. George in 2017; in-laws, John and Kathleen Kernast; and sisters-in-law, Marie George and Joyce George. Family will receive friends from 1 to 3 and 6 to 8 p.m. Friday at McMahon-Coyne-Vitantonio Funeral Home, 38001 Euclid Ave., Willoughby.
