James Burkey

James Cree Burkey, age 70, of Chardon Twp., Ohio, passed away on June 17, 2021 at David Simpson Western Reserve Hospice House in Cleveland. Born December 14, 1950  to Cree Eardean and Betty (nee: Hinley) Burkey in Willougby, Ohio. 

Jim grew up in Willoughby and was a long time resident of Chardon where he raised his family.  He owned and operated Northeastern Asphalt.  He was Chief Estimator and Project Manager for Dagg’s Asphalt and recently retired.  Jim enjoyed fishing, hunting and watching football with his son and brother.  

He is survived by his daughters, Aprell Burkey of Grand River, OH and Kimberly (Jason) Griffin of Kirtland, OH; grandchildren, Rachel Schneider, Nikolaus Spotz, Kian Griffin, Maya Griffin and Anthony Mishaga; brother, Glenn (Suzanne) Burkey of Madison, OH; sisters, Beverly Chapman of Sheffield Village, OH, Linda (Richard) Roskoph of Parma, OH and Debbie (Guy) Townsend of Mentor on the Lake, OH and former wife and dear friend Rosemary Burkey of Mentor, OH. 

He is preceded in death by his parents, son, James Cree Burkey II; brother, Richard Burkey and brother in law, Homer Chapman. 

Family will receive friends, Wednesday, June 23, 2021 from 4:00 to 5:00 p.m. with a Memorial Service to follow at 5:00 p.m. at the Burr Funeral Home, 116 South Street, Chardon, Ohio 44024. 

A private family burial will be held at Western Reserve Memorial Gardens in Chesterland, OH at a future date.
